International Bird Rescue 2025 Seabird Masquerade

Join Lavay Smith & Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers for a special event benefitting International Bird Rescue!
The event will take place at the David Brower Center in downtown Berkeley, and is easily accessible by BART. The evening will feature live music by Lavay Smith & all-star 6-piece band featuring guest vocalist Danny Armstrong, along with delicious vegetarian flavors, a wine & beer bar, amazing auction items, and fun opportunties to celebrate International Bird Rescue's conservation of waterbirds worldwide. The theme this year is penguins, so feel free to don your favorite black-and-white attire with a splash of color.
International Bird Rescue is a nonprofit organization that rehabilitates injured aquatic bird, most notably seabirds affected by oil spills. The group has developed scientifically-based bird rehabilitation techniques and has led oiled wildlife rescue efforts in more than 200 oil spills worldwide, including the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill in Prince Williams Sound, Alaska and the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
The organization cares for an estimated 5,000 birds annually at two rehabilitation centers. Common bird species treated include Brown Pelicans, Common Murres, Western Greebes, Pacific Loons and a variety of gulls, heron and other waterfowl. More info about International Bird Rescue here:

Lavay Smith & Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers make their debut at the Lark Theater with our expanded 10-piece band. This will be one of the only shows this year with our larger ensemble, featuring Lavay Smith + 6 horns (!) + piano, bass and drums. We have a lot of material for this lineup that we don't play at other shows, including historic arrangements by Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald and Ray Charles. It's a lush, gorgeous sound that is perfect for the Lark Theater, a beaufiul art deco gem.
This concert is presented by Marin Jazz in partnership with the Lark Theater. Proceeds will help to raise funds for Kids After School Theatre Programs. These events directly support teachers and provide scholarships for children who need them most.
